Fabienne Babe was born in Boulogne, France
the day after christmas. At an early age, her family moved to Tripoli,
Lybia. These were extraordinary years for her: sun and sea, the eerie
vestiges of decaying roman cities, cameleons, and mysterious houses full
of women and children.
As an adolescent, Fabienne moved back to the parisian suburbs and received
her “bac” in science immediately after graduation, she left
for the United States traveling from the east coast to the west coast
and eventually settling in la for a year.
In LA Fabienne discovered film and began classes in acting. She took great
pleasure in driving throughout California and Mexico, happy to be a foreigner
discovering the USA, and the land that was herself--all in english.
When Fabienne returned to France, she had her first audition with Edouard
Niermans, and her first film. Then came a film with Jacques Rivette, afterwards
with Ken Loach, Jean-Claude Brisseau, and Christine Pascal. Fabienne became
immersed in their worlds.
Fabienne Babe began to work in other countries; Italy with Claudio Sestieri,
Poland with Jerzy Skolimovski, Germany with Peter Patzak, Belgium with
the Dardenne brothers (for which she received a “Bayard d’or”),
and Portugal with Joao-Cesar Monteiro among others.
In 1997, Fabienne Babe was honored with a hommage at the Cinémathèque
in Paris consecrated to her career a feat which was unique for such a
young actress.
After that, Fabienne began to alternate doing “first” films
such as Les Démons de Jésus and Bar des rails
with movies by more experienced masters such as Pialat and Téchiné
or Guiguet and Vecchiali.
Fabienne Babe is fascinated by theatre. She acted in David Mamet’s
Partners directed by Bernard Stora and Les Hommes sans aveu
directed by Belisa Jaoul. She played in Paris as well as on tour throughout
France.
Fabienne’s recent work includes popular comedies such as Le
Coeur des hommes and art films including J’ai vu tuer Ben
Barka.
Fabienne Babe’s last film directed by Sophie Laloy Je te mangerais
will be released march 4, 2009.
Her next project is a maritime thriller Absolue perfection du crime
directed by Richard Aujard. |
